I am disgusted by piracy. You would think people would have the decency to at least go out and buy something they really enjoy to support the people who are creating what they enjoy. These people must have no consciences? Shocking if you ask me. But it's the youth of today.

- Farmville Cheats

The device key in question was found using the software playback program WinDVD 8. The poster who claims to have found the device keys is registered under the name "ATARI Vampire," and says that he has been "actively sitting in the shadows for the last six to eight weeks" following the efforts of other hackers, specifically muselix64 and arnezami. The former created a software program called BackupHDDVD that decrypted high-definition media content, but did not supply any of the necessary encryption keys to do so. The latter found a method of extracting the Volume ID signatures from any HD DVD or Blu-ray disc. ATARI Vampire found that he could work backwards using these two methods to extract the device keys from memory while WinDVD 8 was running.

Before Windows Vista has been oficially released, the Net was put to a long-term buzz all over the world. Betas and RC?s of the new Microsoft Operating System had long ago been available to the laziest surfer familiar with Bit Torrent and eDonkey P2P networks. Now, when MS CEO?s speak about Vista?s popularity going to spread like forest fire, they evidently mean that Microsoft has done a great job promoting it?s OS via pirate networks. Vista is protected to the extend it can satisfy lawyers, but any PC-savvy user can easily install the new OS and activate it against underground server somewhere in China. Vista is much easier to install than XP, ?cause it has mouse driver suppor from the very beginning of the setup. It is supposed to be more reliable than XP. It is supposed to be the most popular MS Windows ever - and it is sure to prove the claims of its developers. Microsoft in fact does everything to ensure its Vista gets in everyone?s hands. Resellers are going to have hard time promoting Vista since it is
easily available on the Net in all builds, archives, localized versions and .iso-images. Probably Bill Gates meant Vista not only to bring him money (from those customers with bucks), but to also make his product used by anyone with limited finances. Is it charity or something else?..

[...] It didn’t take long for the hackers to figure out how to get around the new copy protections on the HD-DVD discs and now it turns out that, it didn’t take much longer, to crack Blu-Ray either. [...]
